Sometimes ideas only make sense in my head, but confuse everyone else around me.
I was reminded of that when Jen asked me, out of what looked like pure frustration,
"What is Shutterbug Excursions, What is Shutterbug Life and What are the Photo Tours? What's the difference between all of them?"
I guess I should have been glad that she found her way to my New York City street photography workshop.
"I tried to find this workshop on your website and got really confused. I didn't know where to look!"
While it all made sense in my head, it struck me at that moment how confusing it could look on the outside. As the types of services and Meetups have evolved and grown, I struggle with a naming convention that makes sense and is intuitive.
Here's the short answer.
ShutterbugLife.com is now the hub for everything I do and all the events and services I plan for this community.
The Photo Tours tab will lead you to my photo tours and workshops in the three different cities I serve — Washington, DC, New Orleans, and New York City.
The Meetups tab will lead you to Meetup links for my groups in Washington, DC, and New York City. It will also lead you to the online groups on Facebook and Flickr.
The podcast and blog tab will naturally take you to all the free learning goodness I produce.
The Mentoring tab will take you to the mentoring club, but it will soon be replaced by a Learn Online tab. That will house the Mentoring Club and the coming Academy, where you will find video training on your favorite topics.
Some short answer, huh.
Here's the long answer.
I'm still struggling with developing and implementing the naming structure.
I love Shutterbug Life because I think it clearly describes our journey as enthusiast photographers. This is about more of a lifestyle for many of us. We shoot for fun every chance we get, and we build in opportunities to learn. We also have aspirations of building something significant over time.
I have these two legacy sites: Shutterbug Excursions for Meetups and Photo Tour DC/New Orleans for photo tours and workshops. I hesitate to change any of them because we all know these names so well. Almost as important, Google knows these names and I get a fair amount of people who find me based on that.
Those names will continue to exist until the Shutterbug Life versions are known as well by us and Google. At some point in the future, I'd like to merge everything.
Until that time, you can find everything from the Shutterbug Life hub. If you are looking for a photo tour, like Jen was doing. Just go to Photo Tours tab and select the city where it will be occurring. The same thing applies for Meetups.
I hope that makes it a little easier to understand and follow along while the madness in my head gets translated to websites.
