Shutterbug Life podcast goes live Sunday, March 1, 2015, 7:00 pm est
We all tried to help Ali, but in the end, we just weren’t enough.
Ali’s plea in our Shutterbug Excursions Facebook group was fairly simple.
“Hello fellow Shutterbugs, I've entered this contest and need votes. Would you guys mind voting? I would really appreciate it,” she said.
What could go wrong in a simple photo contest?
We went to work. Many of us voting early and often. I’m sure I logged a half dozen ballots on her behalf. At one point, we had her in second place, then one of the contestants seemed to go into turbo drive.
“In the beginning I was leading because I have a lot of friends that were voting for me, then suddenly people were jumping by huge numbers,” said Ali. “A friend figured out what they were doing and I found that you could just vote repeatedly by tricking the system with an incognito browser tab. However I felt that was stressful and I just didn't want to deal with it.”
While contests can be great tools for feedback, exposure, and even money, there’s plenty that can go wrong.
Sunday, March 1, the podcast goes live, as we discuss everything photographers need to know about contests and critiques.
You can participate in the live taping of the podcast in two ways:
- Dial in to the conference call. You can ask questions on the line and literally join the conversation.
- Follow along with our live Facebook chat. During our conference call, I’ll also be participating in a live chat in our Facebook group. It’s another way you can join the conversation.
