In the world according to Lyn, there is one lens that should be in every camera bag. Today I'll tell you about it, and why I think it is such a good deal for you.

The lens you should have is the 50mm f/1.8, also known as plastic fantastic or nifty fifty. Here’s why:

  • It gives you the best bang for the buck - at less than $200

  • The fast aperture means great in low light

  • The wide open f-stop lets you create the blurry backgrounds

  • It is very light and compact

  • Every manufacturer has a version

If you already have a 50mm f/1.8, get a decent medium zoom or enses for your favorite genre. Also, look at the extremes (Extra wide, Super tele).
