035 - From fancy gallery to sales machine. How to outfit your website to sell

Looking back, I kinda feel bad for the guy.

When I was at Canon USA, we got pitched by a lot of photographers. I’m used to hiring photographers during my communications career in the defense industry, but at Canon, it was a core part of my responsibilities.

I remember meeting a photographer on the PhotoPlus USA tradeshow floor. We’ll call him Paul. He stopped by to say he’d love to work with us and gave me his card.

Back at the office, I pulled up his site, and his work was BEAUTIFUL, but I knew I would never hire him. I sent his site around to my colleagues for their input, and one by one, they responded with the same analysis. Great work, but not right…for us.
